Position Description

Underwriter


WHEDA is seeking an affordable housing single-family underwriter who has experience as an FHA Direct Endorsement underwriter under the 203(b) guaranty program. Experience underwriting loans for sale to Fannie Mae is a plus.

Duties include 

  • reviewing and evaluating loans for creditworthiness and compliance;
  • interacting with customers via telephone regarding loan decisions;
  • approvals, denials and general information;
  • participating in web-based seminars which includes developing, writing and formatting content for web-based seminars.
  • Also participates in developing and implementing policies and procedures;
  • participates in the development, testing and implementation of new products or systems related to residential credit;
  • provides training and outreach for external and internal customers, which includes developing training content, selecting materials and facilitating training sessions

Qualifications

  • Ideal candidate will have an associate degree in real estate or finance or
  • Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years underwriting experience with a minimum of two (2) years involved with FHA underwriting.
  • Candidate will also have knowledge of underwriting principles and practices; loan application documentation and processing procedures; credit report review principles and practices; applicable Federal State and local laws, rules and regulations.

  • conducting multiple tasks simultaneously;
  • conducting negotiations; analyzing credit reports, income, tax returns and property appraisals;
  • analyzing compliance with Authority, State and Federal guidelines;
  • preparing and conducting training sessions; preparing reports;
  • speaking in public;
  • using a computer and software applications;
  • processing loan applications;
  • making appropriate approval and denial decisions for loans.
  • Candidate must have the ability to work in a team environment and have the ability to maintain confidentiality as it pertains to customer information and any other information obtained in the role as a WHEDA employee.
